Internship: Marketing- Hand Tools and Storage
I am currently studying International Business and German at Aston University, and for the third year of my course, I am working for Stanley Black & Decker in Idstein, as one of the marketing interns. I am now about halfway through my second month, and it has gone by so unbelievably quickly! During August, I spent my time trying to learn everything there is to know here at work, and also familiarising myself with the world outside the office. Thankfully, I was guided by Perrie and our other previous interns. I was unsure at first how I would cope with the workload, and my free time, once the previous interns had left, but myself and the other current interns have been fine so far! Some of the tasks which are involved in my role, are: upkeep of the website, translating product information documents, obtaining product pictures for clients, and much more. The variety of my work keeps my job interesting and enjoyable, and most importantly, everyone here has been so warm and welcoming, it hasn’t been hard settling in.

Internship: Brand & Communications Team
As I approach the end of my first week here in Idstein I can already see my role here in the Brand & Communications team take shape. I am very excited to spend the first half of my year abroad at SBD Deutschland and I can safely say that my first week has far excelled any expectations. I am a Modern Languages student at the University of Bristol where I shall return to in 2020. Here in Idstein I will be working with many brands such as Black + Decker, Bostitch, DeWalt, Lenox and Stanley by assisting with the organization and planning of trade events across the DACH region. My other responsibilities include: online web entry and database upkeep, assisting with the development of print materials and delivery of promotional materials.
My favorite aspect of working for Stanley Black and Decker so far must be the warm atmosphere and sense of community. This is largely down to how closely my team works with other teams and how much contact with various colleagues my role involves, but above all everyone I have met so far has made a special effort to make me feel welcome and offer unconditional support.
Internship: E-commerce Marketing intern.
During a 14-week period I had the opportunity to work as an e-commerce marketing intern at Stanley Black&Decker Benelux. During my time here, I participated in different projects and got to work with some mayor e-commerce players in Belgium such as bol.com and Coolblue. The hands-on experience throughout my internship gave me the challenge to grow my professional skill sets in many ways. I got to interact with different departments and colleagues who helped me to improve my professional communication skills. My creative skills were also tested every day. For example, one of my first tasks was to write online copy for the classic STANLEY No. 4 Smoothing Bench Plane. At first I was struck without creativity, but with the guidance of my mentor and colleagues, I rapidly adapted to the workflow of SBD and got to contribute to the marketing of our SBD products on different online marketplaces. Stanley Black&Decker did not only shape me professionally but also in a personal way. I got to experience how my colleagues across all departments contributed to the vision of the company and I am truly grateful that I participated in marketing the tools for those who make the world.
Internship: Marketing Assistant
I joined Stanley Black and Decker as Marketing Assistant for the Digital and Sponsorship Team in Slough after winning the «ECOSMART Contest», an HR recruitment program which aims to attract early career talent direct from University. From day one, my experience has been incredible: I have been involved in a variety of different projects, from assisting to the set up of content management platforms and social media analytics to the implementation of landing pages, organizing events and travelling to other countries for photoshoots. I can say for sure that I have never been bored! At Stanley Black and Decker, I had the chance to learn new skills and to challenge myself every day, speaking a language I had previously only encountered in books. And on top of all of that, living in a new country. I would also like to highlight the positive attitude and support I received from the people working for this organization; working with best-in-class products within a market-leading organisation is an invaluable experience. Last but not least, I am proud to say that after a 1 year internship I received an offer of a permanent position in the same team I am part of today, which I promptly accepted. I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about the opportunities which lie ahead.

Internship: E-commerce Marketing Assistant
Working as a Marketing intern at Stanley Black&Decker Benelux really shaped me from a student to a real professional in the field of business management and marketing. During a period of 14 weeks I had the opportunity to further improve my professional skills and leverage my knowledge about some valuable business and marketing processes. In addition to that, I have learned some very valuable lessons about myself which made me more aware of my own strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. At the beginning of my internship, I had no real knowledge about the Tools business. But because of the very open and welcoming business culture, I was able to quickly adapt myself to the workflow within Stanley Black&Decker which ultimately made me learn the ropes faster than expected. Of course, this wouldn’t have been possible without the help and encouragement of my co-workers, trainings, and the continuous stimulus to get the job done. I am very grateful for an internship in a company that celebrates diversity, stimulates people to achieve personal victories and shaped me into a professional. It was truly an amazing working experience that will help me with my future professional endeavors.
Internship: Product Marketing Assistant
My placement year at Stanley Black and Decker has almost come to an end, and I had no idea that the last 9 months would go so quickly. Since starting the company as a product marketing assistant back in July 2016, I have certainly learnt a lot about how a global business is run. I am more than happy with the progress I have made during my time at the company, and would most definitely class myself as a successful graduate. In my eyes, a successful graduate at Stanley Black and Decker is someone who is very familiar with the product, has a strong relationship with both customers and employees and can help achieve the overall company goal that is to: provide tools and solutions that make life easier. A high profiled or valued employee at the company is also one who applies by the Stanley Fulfilment System. This is commitment to putting customers at the heart of everything we do as a company. This would make a stand out employee be 100% committed to exceeding our customers’ demands and expectation every day. By doing this, the individual is smarter, simpler, faster and easier to do business with. In terms of what skills I have learnt during my placement year, I would say that my internship has helped me build strong relationships with employees and customers of the company. This is mainly down to attending trade shows (e.g. FFX Show – see picture) with the company. At the shows, I get to know my colleagues more, and also I get to meet and go out with some of our customers, for example: Toolbank and Screwfix. Moreover, I also got to learn a lot more about the product, speaking to end users really encourages me to take in important knowledge that helps me contribute more to the company as part of the product marketing team.
Internship: Marketing Assistant, Insights
My placement year at Stanley Black and Decker has been very insightful. When I first started back in June, the team consisted of myself, my manager and the Finance Director. I was given the responsibility to complete tasks that our current business insight analysts complete today. Being given this level of responsibility, really gave me the opportunity to flourish and develop new skills, which I know will benefit me across my career. From running Daily sales, rebuilding KPI’s, working on the target files, through to communicating with the senior leadership team, I have been able to get involved in a range of tasks within the commercial finance team. I have developed both my interpersonal and excel skills and gained a deeper understanding into the work that goes on within a commercial finance team. One of the highlights from my placement year at Stanley Black and Decker, was attending the Product Awareness Day. This was a great opportunity to get hands on with the tools, and see why we really are a world-leading provider of tools and storage. I have also attended our UK & ROI kick-off conference back in January, where we had the opportunity to listen to the future developments of the business and participate in loads of fun team-building activities, and a Gatsby-themed gala evening. I am really grateful to have had the opportunity to complete a placement year here at Stanley Black and Decker. I really feel like I have become an integral member of the team, and am not simply viewed as a placement student. I would like to thank everyone for all their support over the year.
Internship: Brand Marketing Assistant
My placement year at Stanley Black & Decker (SBD) has been truly rewarding and an eye opener to the dynamic world of Marketing. I have worked with both the UK Marketing team and the European Marketing team as well as cross functionally with third party agencies and other departments such as sales, finance, customer service and product teams. The company allowed me to develop both professionally and personally and gave me a high degree of responsibility from the outset. My main responsibilities comprised of organising and managing marketing events (including locations such as Silverstone and Alexandra Palace) producing promotional literature for the MAC and STANLEY brand, updating and managing the Black + Decker website, creating web banners, planning social content for Facebook posts, creating posters and catalogue pages for Argos and Wilko and managing finances through the purchase order process. This opportunity has been a great experience and was made even more enjoyable by working with the great people that SBD employ and living the company values of integrity and respect.
Internship: Marketing Support
I had a great pleasure to be a part of marketing team in summer 2016 and work with amazing people. The team was very warm and welcoming, and even though I only worked closely with my appointed supervisor, every single team member was willing to help me out with projects and questions I had. My job mostly was to help with existing project, to learn about the company and what the department is operating. I was working on catalogues in 10 different languages, working on commercials for Polish market and current database in the system. I was also involved in quarterly phone calls from SBD employees in other regions, which gave me more insights of corporate marketing world. Overall, I had a great experience that opened new doors for me and gave me an opportunity to meet such great people. I am currently part of Stanley Black and Decker for almost a year and it all started with an internship
Internship: Trade Marketing Assistant
I had the opportunity to make 2 consecutive internships within Stanley Black & Decker. These 2 experiences have been completely different. During the first one I was Trade Marketing Assistant for Black & Decker brand. For the second one I was in charge of setting up dedicated shopping spaces for Dewalt brand in independent shops. At Stanley B&D, I had the opportunity to progress in a professional environment, which was also very pleasant thanks to the great atmosphere within the teams. I found that during my placement I had genuine accountability for my tasks. This enabled me to be quickly involved in the teams, to have a genuine mission and gain both experience and maturity. I discovered the Tools business, which I was completely oblivious about prior to this internship, and I am really pleased that this was through amazing brands acknowledged for their quality.

Internship: Key Account Assistant
I stayed 6 month as an Intern at Stanley Black & Decker as Key Account Assistant in the Small & Medium Business team. This was my final assignment to validate my MA in Negotiations and Sales Team Leadership. My experience with SBDK was a great success. Indeed I discovered the Tools and Gardening businesses on the supplier side, managed to be involved with central buyers, and most importantly discover what it is to work for a Global company. Despite the fact that both the business and the processes are fairly complex, the great atmosphere I experienced at the head office really helped me to become part of the teams and feel at ease during my internship. This 6 month experience will be a real asset on my CV!

Internship: Trade Marketing Assistant
To match my University Major in International Business (MA) with practical experience, I took on a 9 month apprenticeship as Key Account Assistant in the Mass Market division (Consumer business channel). The close relationship between the commercial, marketing, finance, and inside sales teams helped me to better understand the Company’s structure overall. Whatever the size of our customers, I got in touch with the real business and this helped me develop a strong knowledge of our core businesses with tradesmen dedicated business (hand tools, power tools and consumer products). This professional experience highlighted the critical role a KA Assistant might have, although some time not fully considered in larger structures. I was completely aligned with Stanley Black & Decker values and the relaxed atmosphere is also a great indicator that for those willing to acquire a solid experience, this is the place to go!
Internship: HR Assistant
My name is Federica. I joined Stanley Black & Decker as HR Commercial trainee in Italy as of the beginning of March 2017. Even if it’s just been two months that I work here I’m finding this experience very enriching for my professional life. I’m so excited to be here, I’m learning day by day, this is really a great development opportunity. Before starting my internship, I was a student at University of Milan. I studied Sociology and I graduated in December 2016. During my time at Stanley Black & Decker, I’m learning many different things: what I enjoy the most is learning on the job from people that have a lot of experience & skills. For example, my tutor is sharing with me his work methodology that I will be able to apply in many different situations and circumstances. I’m looking forward to see what this experience will give me, in terms of professional and personal values.
Internship: Product Manager Assistant
I completed a 6 month placement as Product Manager Assistant at Stanley Black & Decker in Lyon, France. I got to choose this large corporation because of its globally known brands and also because France was its largest business in Europe. It was fairly easy to discover all different products from the Black & Decker range, thanks to some product training made directly on site. I progressed within the Marketing team where I discovered 3 different aspects of marketing : trade, product, and communication. I rapidly became autonomous thanks to many projects and responsibilities I was given. My integration within the team was immediate: on top of my marketing colleagues, I was in touch with the Key Accounts team. During my internship, I had the opportunity to work with all services : inside sales, commercial finance, after sales… to lead my projects all the way through. All the people I worked with were welcoming, available and ready to listen and help with my questions. This placement has therefore met all my expectations, and I gained new skills which really helped me in my further search for professional placements.
Internship: Key Account Assistant
Stanley Black & Decker was my first experience in the business world. As a Key Account Assistant, I joined the Small and Medium size retail business division. I however worked with the larger organisation during this period. 1 year and 2 other internships later, I realise how formative my time with Stanley B&D was. From IT skills, to marketing plan and new product range launch, it was great to be part of a Global company. Here I discovered its procedures and culture, work methodology and I even used tools I never used before! In a nutshell I keep all but positive out this internship: whether it was the great atmosphere in the office, training on new products, or customer meetings with genuine responsibilities : Do Not Hesitate!
